Sawbridgeworth Repair Café celebrates one

Jun 24, 2023

Experts were on hand again to celebrate the first anniversary of Sawbridgeworth’s Repair Café.

Everything from a Segway to a Flymo and a watch strap to the waistband of a pair of trousers came under the microscope, and the café at the Bullfields Centre was delighted to report 50% of the items were fixed and a further third were waiting for parts.

The town’s deputy mayor, Cllr Reece Smith, was on hand to celebrate the milestone for the café, which was set up in conjunction with Sustainable Sawbridgeworth.

Corinne Lewis, who launched the initiative last July, said she was delighted the café was celebrating its first year and seven sessions.

“The repair café team have grown and grown and we now have a team of nine general electric repairers and two sewing/jewellery repairers,” said Corinne.

“They all enjoy coming, partly as they are rewarded with free cake, but mainly as they get real satisfaction from saving items from landfill to give them a new lease of life.”

Other items fixed included a vacuum cleaner, dehumidifier, hedge trimmer, Mac Book – and Cllr Annelise Furnace was delighted that her Christmas lights are back in working order for the coming season.

The next repair café session will be held at the Bullfields Centre on Saturday September 30, from 2pm to 5pm.
